The Phoenix Convention Center introduced a new exterior uplighting system, bringing a fresh visual presence to the building after dark.
Installed along 3rd Street, Monroe Street and Washington Street earlier this year, the system projects vibrant, customizable lighting across the facility’s façade, giving the venue a dynamic nighttime identity and enhancing its role as a downtown landmark.
“The Phoenix Convention Center, and especially Canyon on Third, is well-known architecturally in the downtown Phoenix core,” said Assistant Director Bob Fingerman. “This lighting initiative only enhances the natural beauty of the facility.”
The uplighting is designed to highlight the building’s architectural features while providing flexibility for events and special occasions. Colors can be adjusted to align with convention themes, community celebrations, or citywide initiatives, allowing the facility to visually participate in moments important to Phoenix and its visitors.
More than 55 highly advanced and energy efficient luminary devices were installed, each containing hundreds of micro-LEDs with the ability to splash a rainbow array of color onto our buildings. The new lighting platform allows our venue the opportunity to express its personality—bringing out its shape, adding vivid color, and creating moments that connect the architecture with the community.
“The lighting system offers both functional and aesthetic benefits,” Fingerman said. “It creates a more engaging exterior at night and strengthens our sense of place in the surrounding urban environment.”
The lighting installation is part of a broader series of facility enhancements completed in 2026, reflecting leadership’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the Phoenix Convention Center as a modern, competitive and visually distinctive venue.
