For Huss Brewing Co. owner Leah Huss, creating a sense of community is just as important as crafting the perfect beer. Each Huss Brewing Co. location is unique, but each space offers a place for the community to gather and relax, she said.

Huss Brewing Co. celebrates 10 years in business August 23, and Huss hopes to see the business keep expanding, offering more places for gathering over a good bite and a great beer.

“We would love to have a Huss in every neighborhood,” Huss said. “Breweries are such great community gathering spaces.”

The most recent Huss Brewing Co. location is right here at the Phoenix Convention Center, making it the only convention center in the U.S. with a brewpub attached. Huss Brewpub opened at the Phoenix Convention Center in April 2022, and Huss said every new location they’ve opened has been different.

“The menus are different at each location,” Huss said. “The Brewpub is the only location with a full bar, we don’t have a full bar anywhere else. We like for our spaces to be unique and offer what we think that area will want the most. Each one has its own look and feel.”  Jeff and Leah - Huss Brewing owners
The first Huss Brewing Co. location opened in 2013 in South Tempe, Huss said, with her and her husband Jeff behind the operation. Together, they have decades of experience in the brewing industry and have turned Huss into something beyond their initial dreams.

“Now, we are the third biggest brewery in the state and have four locations,” Huss said.

But, expansion and growth haven’t deterred the owners on their commitment to quality. The Scottsdale Blonde was one of the first beers Jeff ever made for Huss Brewing Co., and it remains Leah’s favorite, but she said that the business has continued to innovate and adapt based on trends and the tastebuds of their customers.

“We have a beer that tastes like coffee but isn’t dark, which is special,” Huss said. “And we have one everyone is going crazy over right now, the Pink Pineapple Haze. Our daughter gave a challenge and said we should make something with pink pineapple, and it’s been a hit.”

Huss comes from a big family, where mealtime meant a lot of dishes intended for sharing. That idea is infused on all the menus at the different Huss locations.

“We wanted it to be shareable, and we wanted to have different stuff at each one,” Huss said. “We wanted to have everything be a little different from what everyone else was offering.”

As for the location at the Phoenix Convention Center, Huss said having a spot downtown has been “so fun.”

“It’s a different day every day down at the Convention Center,” Huss said. “Which, I love. I love that we see different kinds of customers and different crowds down there depending on what’s going on.”
