Ryan Arnold is an Account Clerk III at the Phoenix Convention Center & Venues. Prior to joining the Phoenix Convention Center department, he was with the City of Phoenix in the Finance department. He graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in accounting in 2021. In his free time, Ryan enjoys baking and decorating cakes!

Q: What do you enjoy most about your role at the Phoenix Convention Center?

I enjoy the people I work with the most. They are very friendly, and a pleasure to talk to. When I started working there, my boss brought in lemon bars his wife made and they were a hit. Another time, Karyn Oliver [Accountant III] brought a cheesecake over for Tracy Reuer’s [Senior Buyer] birthday celebration in the office, and it was delicious. I love the parties Karyn plans for the office. She will blow up a couple of balloons and decorate your desk whenever you have a birthday in the office.

Q: How did you come to your role at the PCC?

A door opened for me to work as an Account Clerk for the Phoenix Convention Center, so I decided to take advantage of it. It was a great decision, as I enjoy all that I do in my department. My supervisor is great and goes “above and beyond” to help me succeed in my position. He provides me with a daily checklist for tasks I need to complete each day.

Q: What are the skills you have sharpened in your new position?

At first, I was struggling a bit with task completion. I was the kind of person who just wanted to get things done quickly and have them over with. Now I know that accuracy is the key to my job and task completion comes second. There is no substitute for correct data. I must do my best and concentrate on the details to provide a quality product every time.

Q: Do you have any restaurant recommendations near the PCC?

A restaurant I would recommend near the PCC is Blanco Tacos. One day Doug Hayes, my co-worker, invited his team to celebrate two teammates' birthdays there. I had already made them cupcakes, so the day got even more special with the addition of a great meal. I am an avid baker and I love to spend my free time decorating cakes for special occasions.

Q: What is your favorite feature of the PCC?

I love to go up and down the stairs inside the building. Whenever I feel stressed or need a break, I walk around the building for a bit to calm down or climb up and down the stairs. It is a wonderful way to get a little exercise and to take a break if I am feeling stressed. I feel much better and refreshed after climbing the stairs in the Convention Center.
