About the Process

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Security Badging Office provides its business partners and their employees with badging and fingerprinting services that are needed for employees to work at Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).

The process to request a new badge, to renew a badge, or to setup your company at PHX, can be initiated through this Web site, which contains the necessary forms, information and office hours to help you through the process. By reviewing the information and completing the necessary forms before arriving, the process will proceed more smoothly and quickly.

PHX Airport issues three main types of badges: 1) the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, which provides unescorted access to the secured side of the Airport, including ramps and Air Operations Area (AOA); and 2) the Non-SIDA badge, which authorizes an employee through the screening process at the security checkpoints, but does not authorize unescorted access to the SIDA, ramps, or Aircraft Operations Area (AOA); and 3) the Public badge, which authorizes access to public areas such as the Rental Car Center.

How to Obtain a Badge

1. For new badge holders, the security badging process takes place in 3 steps: applicant record building/fingerprinting, training and badge issuance. During the initial step of the badging process, the applicant submits the following to the badging office staff member:

2. The Badge Application

3. Complete the badge application form and obtain the necessary signatures. Please remember these basic instructions when filling out the application:

In addition, use the following information as a guide for completing each section on the application:

4. Download and print the SECURITY THREAT ASSESSMENT APPLICATION (STA).

Use the following information as a guide for completing each section on the application:

5. First time applicants are required to clear an electronic, fingerprint-based criminal history records check before a badge can be issued. Download and print the Fingerprint Criminal History Records Check Application or read related Frequently Asked Questions. Applicants are required to read, sign and answer each question individually on the Fingerprint Application before receiving fingerprint services. This application lists the 36 convictions that disqualify applicants from receiving a badge.

6. Turn in your completed application forms with proper signatures to the Badging Office. You will be fingerprinted (if required) at this time. In addition to the application materials you are required to have your identification and employment eligibility ID’s with you.

Two (2) forms of identification:

Generally, criminal history results are returned within five business days. The company will be notified once the Security Threat Assessment and Criminal History Records Check clearance are received. Applicants have 30 days from notification date to return to the Security Badging Office to attend the applicable training course and to claim the badge. Airline-sponsored applicants will be notified of this clearance through the carrier. Failure to return within this time frame will cause the application to expire, forcing employees to reapply and start the process over with additional fees. Reminder: applicants cannot be issued a badge until the SECURITY THREAT ASSESSMENT APPLICATION is submitted and approved by the Transportation Security Administration.

7. Security Training. This is mandatory training for the applicant, except for those whose work related duties require a public badge, and must be successfully completed before a badge can be issued. PHX uses an INTERACTIVE COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING PROGRAM and the training schedule is below:

If your company requires you to be trained in fuel handling procedures, you must be issued a Fuel Handler's Endorsement. Download the STUDY GUIDE FOR FUEL HANDLERS.

If your company requires you to be trained in operating an electric cart, you must be issued a Cart Driver Permit. Download the ELECTRIC CART STUDY GUIDE.

8. Badge Renewals. For SIDA applicants download and complete the APPLICATION FOR SKY HARBOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT COMPANY SECURITY BADGE application, according to the instructions. There is no need to complete another Security Threat Assessment Application when renewing your badge. Badge-holders are required to renew access privileges within 30 days prior to badge expiration. Failure to renew after 30 days requires that the employee complete the application process from the beginning as a first-time applicant, including the fingerprinting process and security training.

New Company Setup
