INCREASING CITY PURCHASES FROM PHOENIX BUSINESSES

Staff:   Fairbanks, Wingenroth, Perkins

For years the City has encouraged our residents to “Shop Phoenix”.  Shopping in Phoenix creates much needed sales tax revenues that support city services, as well as helps local businesses thrive.

We request approval for a program to significantly increase buying from Phoenix firms, by increasing the number of Phoenix firms involved in the City process.  We will do extensive outreach to Phoenix businesses on all Invitations for Bid (IFB), Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Requests for Quotes.  We would be able to implement this program within 30 days.  We would evaluate the results of the program after the June 30, 2009 fiscal year end to identify potential improvements.

This item is for information, discussion and action.
