Youth Fast Pitch Softball Leagues

The city of Phoenix offers girls fast pitch softball leagues and tournaments. Age groups are 10 and under; 12 and under; 14 and under; 16 and under; and 18 and under. Doubleheader leagues are offered in the spring, fall and summer.

Three tournaments are also offered each year. The Spring Fling (first weekend in March), the Firecracker (last weekend in June) and the Winter Wind-Up (first weekend in December).


Soccer, T-Ball, Baseball

The Parks and Recreation department no longer offers citywide park-based outdoor youth sports leagues and instructional clinics in t-ball, baseball and multi-sport "sampler" programs. For those interested in field-based sports, please see our list of community-based youth sports providers. Many department community centers will continue to offer sports programs. The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and the Soccer Club de Sol (SC del Sol) have formed a partnership to offer citywide youth soccer league for children ages five to 12. The club handles all registrations -- you can download the registration form to register by mail.

The department does sponsor an adaptive soccer league for children with disabilities at the Diamondbacks Youth Complex at Reach 11 Recreation Area.

Other Sports

Racquetball
Mountain View Community Center offers racquetball for participants 16 years of age and older. Leagues run for 12 weeks and cost $40 per person. For more information please call Mountain View Community Center at 602-534-2500.

Karate
Karate is offered at various community centers throughout Phoenix for a variety of age groups. For a full list of karates classes check out our online registration page.

General Information
for Adult Softball Leagues


The Parks and Recreation Department’s Sports and Turf Management Division is pleased to offer Adult Softball Leagues at Sports Complexes and Park Fields across the city. 


League play
is conducted three seasons per year: 

  • FALL – September through November
  • WINTER -  January through March
  • SPRING – April through June

WINTER 2009 Adult Softball Leagues

Classification Application deadline is November 7, 2008

WINTER 2009 Adult Softball Season Important Dates

New teams who did not play in the previous season will be required to complete an Adult Softball Team Classification Form.  Classification Forms are due in advance of General Registration by the established deadline.  (Print off the form, fill it out and return by fax, mail, or drop it off at the address/location on the form.)

Definitions of Team Classifications:
Division “A”: Teams with participants who are very talented and experienced softball players. Superior offensive  and defensive skills required with good home-run power. Experience playing together as a team helpful, but not essential at this level.

Division “B”:  Teams with experience playing together as well as individual experience. Very good offensive and defensive skills required with some home-run power.

Division “C”
  Teams with experience playing together as well as individual experience. Effective offensive and defensive skills required with 1-2 power hitters.

Division “D”  Teams with little or no experience playing together and a combination of experienced and inexperienced players.  Offensive and defensive skills vary among teammates.

Division “Novice” :  Teams with little or no experience playing together and little individual playing experience; generally comprised of a group of friends participating solely for recreation.


General League registrations are conducted on-line through PRO (Parks and Recreation Online) and are conducted on specified dates in the month preceding league play:

  • Fall Registration – early August
  • Winter Registration – mid November
  • Spring Registration – early March

League Format - Double-round-robin league play with a single-elimination post season tournament. 

  • 8 team leagues play a double-header schedule.  There are four game times per night on two fields with no new inning started after 55 minutes of accelerated play (each batter starts with a one and one count).
  • 7 team leagues play a modified double-header schedule.  There are three game times per night on two fields with no new inning started after 55 minutes of accelerated play (each batter starts with a one and one count)

League Fees cover the cost of umpires, field usage, softballs and awards for league and tournament play:

  • 8 Team Leagues = $425.00 per team
  • 7 Team Leagues = $390.00 per team

League Rules: All leagues play under ASA modified rules.  The Parks and Recreation Department league and ground rules are also in effect for these leagues.

Tennis

The city of Phoenix offers a wide range of tennis programs at community centers and local parks. These programs include leagues and lessons for both youth and adult. Lessons are provided for all skill levels from beginning to advanced. Cost differs at each location depending on the length of the lessons offered. Phoenix Municipal Stadium is proud to be a host site for Major League Baseball's annual Fall League for minor league players. The Phoenix Devil Dogs kick off play at Muni each Oct. Over the years, the Fall League has been a proving ground for many successful Major League players.
