Authors & Poets Lecture Series: Stella Pope Duarte
Educator, community activist and author, Stella Pope Duarte, presents her third book, If I Die In Juarez, based on her research in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Duarte weaves a compelling story of three young women living in the border town and how their worlds are affected by the violence in their city.
"Phoenix Sustainability 101"
A panel of specialists from various City of Phoenix departments provide updates on the city's short and long term goals to address how we protect and sustain valuable resources with regard to environmental issues. Future resources of energy, fuel, products and manpower are covered. This event was presented by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and District 6 Councilman, Greg Stanton.
Faces of Diversity Brown Bag Series: "Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Healthcare"
City of Phoenix Human Relations Commissioner Janey Pearl, R. J. Shannon and Zipatley Mendoza, from the Arizona Department of Health Services/Health Disparities office along with Anna Alonzo of Mountain Park Community Health Center, Cheryl Hunter a community organizer, Olga Davis, Ph.D. of the Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center at Arizona State University and Lloyd Asato from the Asian Pacific Community in Action, will discuss the existence of racial and ethnic disparities in health care.
"Be Well, Breath Well" Asthma Check-up
We talk to asthma specialist Traci Arney about ways to deal with asthma, management of the disease and new breakthroughs.
Heart Health Series with Dr. Ted Diethrich
Dr. Ted. Diethrich
of the Arizona Heart Institute presents tips on how to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease-the number one cause of death in America today. This event was taped on location at the Paradise Valley Senior Center.
Everything Phoenix with Deborah Sedillo Dugan
Join host Deborah Sedillo Dugan as Phoenix Police Department's forensic artist, Kirt Messick is profiled. A review of the city's "Summer Respite" program to help the homeless with donations of water and clothing is examined in addition to a discussion of the crime of elder abuse with staff from the Family Advocacy Center.     District 3 Councilwoman Maria Baier "On The Issues"
Councilmember Maria Baier discusses public safety issues with Police Chief Jack Harris. She also highlights the city's Summer Reading Program.
    District 4 Councilman Tom Simplot "On The Issues"
Councilman Tom Simplot is On the Road where he explores the variety of ways to enjoy the Phoenix Art Museum.
    District 5 Councilman Claude Mattox
Councilman Claude Mattox is On the Road to visit with Packages from Home, an organization that sends care packages of food, personal care and recreational items to deployed American troops.
    District 6 Councilman Greg Stanton
Councilman Greg Stanton visits with Richard de Uriarte, one of The Arizona Republic's leading editorial writers. He also meets a Phoenix firefighter who recently climbed Mount Everest. Stanton learns about a recycling partnership between the cities of Phoenix and Tempe and how local nonprofits are serving our homeless community during the scorching summer months.
    District 7 Councilman Michael Nowakowski
Councilman Michael Nowakowski features members of his newly formed District 7 Youth Council and highlights of their first meeting. He'll also learn about the city's Summer Reading Program and receive neighborhood updates from community leaders within his district.
   

District 8 Councilman Michael Johnson "On The Issues"
Councilman Michael Johnson discusses the massive earthquake that hit Phoenix's Sister City of Chengdu, China and the community's efforts to help our sister city. He also will feature the Youth Ambassador Exchange Program and meet former youth ambassadors of Chengdu. To close the show, he highlights a new library coming to his district.
